Our Philosophy

Whanaungatanga

He aha te mea nui o te ao.

He tāngata, he tāngata, he tāngata

What is the most important thing in the world?

It is people, it is people, it is people.

We view meaningful relationships as the foundation for participation and engagement and therefore implicit in learning. We believe identity, and a sense of belonging empowers and builds confidence and nurtures wellbeing. With this in mind, we actively support relationships in the centre and with our wider community. We acknowledge the mana and mauri of every individual and welcome the benefits of kotahitangi/unity.

 Matauranga

Te manu e kai ana I te miro,nōna te ngahere;
Te manu e kai ana I te mātauranga nōna te ao.

The bird who partakes of the miro berry owns the forest.
The bird who partakes of education owns the world.

Tamariki engage with a responsive curriculum that places their interests at the heart of learning, fostering innovation, problem-solving, and enjoyment. Our curriculum emphasises a passion for discovery, perseverance, inquiry, and exploration. A deep sense of Kaitiakitanga and a commitment to meaningful, reciprocal relationships with Papatūānuku are cherished taonga that we strive to preserve.

Ako

Ko te ahurei o te tamaiti arahia o tatou mahi.
Let the uniqueness of the child guide our work.

Kaiako work in reciprocal partnerships with tamariki, whānau, community and colleagues to create a rich environment designed to promote curiosity and nurture ‘a can-do attitude’, intrinsic motivation and provide learning challenges in a safe context. Kaiako are considered and intentional in their practice.

Akoranga

Ehara taku toa I te toa takitahi engari he toa takitini.
I come not with my own strengths but bring with me the gifts, talents and strength of my family, tribe and ancestors.

As a community of learners (kaiako, tamariki and whānau) we value a strengths-based approach and nurture diversity of perspectives, cultures and intentional actions supporting growth. We value the knowledge that tamariki bring with them from their world outside of LUECC and believe that this enriches their learning and the learning of others around them.
